INTRO It has been long coming...well nearly from the start...but I think I have to admit defeat. There is no way I will now achieve my ambitious 10,000 km by the end of the year. I would need to ride 113 km a day for the next 18 days EXCUSESPartly I was robbed by the weather, but Harvey soldiered through all conditions and even added 400 miles over the last 2 weeks with all the ice and snow about ( how did u do that btw ).....Partly I was robbed by Muddy who didn't allow me to add any of my 30 -40 odd hours I rode on the turbo trainer and spin bike....they would have at least added another 1000 km. But rules are rules and I shall abide to them. I was going to use my not commuting as a third excuse, but to be fair nothing would stop me getting out of bed in the mornings at 6 am and ride 50 km by 8 ....so I don't think it fair taking that away from the guys who have the discipline to do it Anyway I was at least hoping to get to 9000, but even that seems not possible now. The snow and Xmas parties took care of that SUMMARYHaving said all that I will still set myself a similar target next year and would encourage anyone to do the same. I'm sure that it made me go out ride many times when i didn't really feel like it, only to avoid getting too far behind my target. 2 weeks ago doing 400km in 4 days when it was -4°C is only one example So set yourselves some targets for 2011 and lets go for it MERRY XMAS Cas

Woop, woop! Made it! Thanks to Terry and Cas for helping me smash through this on the last week of the year. 48km MTB ride on Monday with Terry plus two road rides with Cas; yesterday for a couple of laps round Richmond Park (50km for me anyway, Cas did seven laps) plus a 65km ride today around the lanes of Surrey and I'm through the barrier. I was struggling this last month with all the snow and zero commuting mileage so I really appreciate the assistance this week. Just need to think about what target to set for next year!

I have to admit it - I was not a strong believer in this when you guys first started doing it but Hey I'm impressed with the way you guys have taken this to heart and helped each other through it. Well impressed in deed - well done you guys. I think I'll give it a go this year - worked it out - even been for a ride as well as the gym. Need to get my weight down too from 15st 9lbs to 14st 4lbs - that'll be tougher though. Oh and by the way - Happy New Year to all of you.

Yay finally worked it out, I set a real low standard for this as I will probably forget to update it... and I have no computer on my work bike... I am hopeless at setting them up.. I did put one on but I was doing 30 + MPH most of the time and covering 1000 miles a shift so I suspect it all went wrong along the way somewhere... Now ripped off and in my locker ....
+ setting it so low means I smash it by a huge margin ...

Target has been reset...although I fell more than 1800 km short last year I will give it another go
Split up it means cycling about
28 km a day or 195 km a week or 835 km a month
Not too difficult if one doesnt miss a days or a weeks or a month's target. But miss a few and it soon gets more difficult . Anyhow here we go.... today is the 3rd Jan ...so I'm already 82 km behind target !!!!!! ;D

Happy New year everyone!
I've set myself a reasonably modest target for the year, but hope to a bit more consistent throughout the year, rather than doing it all in the first 6-7 months and then suffering something of a motivational crisis.
I'm not planning on doing any big foreign sportives this year, but definitely feel I have some unfinished business with the SDW.
Not the best start though today, locked my bike up at work, only for the key to snap off in the lock (Kryptonite cable lock in case you wondered). Currently waiting to see if the janitor has some bolt croppers!

rode into work today, man was it wet.
But on the bright side, it's week 1 and I've already completed 1/50th of my target!

Just started a new ticker but as we are looking to emigrate around the middle of the year, I have set a moderate target of 3000 miles. Last year's total was just shy of 6700 miles so half shouldn't be that far off. Cue MTFU comments...

oooh! interesting...
after his good start and my injury in January Cas's early lead has evaporated and we are now on EXACTLY the same distance covered... (1585 for future reference).
C'mon the daily commuting king (that's me by the way)

Just passed 1600 miles! I am sure I am powered by the sun. The commute seems so much easier now I get to see some sun in the evenings. Also made some changes to the fixie so that may help too – dropped the bars by 30mm and raised the saddle by 5mm! What a difference. Now to trim off the excess steerer so I don’t impale myself during the next “dismount”.

It should be a breeze hitting the last 1000 miles before the end of June. ;D

Congrats Harvey, keep up the good work.
Cycle commuting is indeed much easier to do even when your legs are heavy when its dry, warm and light outside!
