Nope, a mile is a mile (or in km's if you prefer). No bonuses, no spinning no nothing. Anyway, it's two thirds of the way through the year, you can't go changing rules now. Ahhhhhhh...Totally agree Muddy....I forgot I did 6 spin classes a week in Jan and Feb and none of it counted towards miles/km's ridden As such I retrieve my kind offer of 1 MTB mile = 1.5 Road miles ;D

Blasted through the 6,000 km mark with a long, long ride today.
So that's three-quarters of the way towards my target 18 days ahead of schedule i.e. the end of September is of course 3/4's of the way through the year.

well done Muddy... I creeped up to within 30 km today by doing the 155 Southern Sportive...but u added a swift 70 to make the distance 100 km again....Im still gunning for u though, but as I don't commute I agree it will be difficult

Finally got round to updating my ticker. Have set a fairly modest new target, but in that I have managed a total of 150km in August and September to date, and in that I've got 6 trips abroad coming up in te next few months, even this will be a bit of a push I think. Plus my commuting distance has halved to a 16km round trip!

Ticker is plodding on nicely. I'm not sure what it would have been if I'd put in the weekend stuff but no loss, commuting miles seem to be getting me by.
Passed 4500 miles this week and the end is firmly in sight. ;D

Its rediculous how hard I hav eto work just to keep up with these commuters. I was falling so far behind that I had to do a 4 hr road ride just to keep within a reasonable distance
Keeps me motivated though

Yeehaa! Passed 5000 commuting miles for this year! Just have to find the energy to keep to five times a week and I'll hit my target about a month early

Smashed through the 7000 with a great L2B and back. It started cold but was a glorious day. In the end I only managed 142 km instead of the panned 170 , because my leg started hurting again and i had to get Grazia to pick up at the bottom of Pebble Hill. I could have not gone up that one with all that pain. Muddy don't worry though as I dont think I will be able to ride again now until this injury has healed..which will be at least a week, but I just couldn't let it stop me riding today ;D

Rode my long route today, with my return journey taking me upto Polesden Lacey (on road bike tonight) Very windy, lots of wet leaves, dark and miserable ! Welcome to winter commuting

this has mainly been my evening commute for the last two days: flippin hard work especially as my 10 days lay off due to injury (and I'm still not 100%) has certainly seen me lose my edge. Had a good little battle yesterday evening tho (Tuesday). 7pm, fully dark and coming along from South Wimbledon towards Morden and as pulled sluggishly away from some lights feeling pretty tired a guy on a 'Wilier' flew past me. Oh well, another day i thought but then as so often happens he was obviously just trying to gap me and as he slowed down i slowly caught him back up. Tucked in behind him without him knowing and after a few seconds breather I went past him again and then around the Morden roundabout and up towards Morden Park. didn't see anyone for half a mile but then as i slowed again on the long drag feeling the effects of the headwind, the lay off, my back starting to complain etc. he came past me again. Quick as a flash i was out the saddle spurred on by the thrill of the chase. As i tucked into his wheel a third rider I hadn't seen said 'Oh!' as he was obviously trying to draft him too and i had cut him off as he tried to get on Wilier's wheel. I apologised with a laugh and he tucked in behind me and we headed towards the top of the Col de la George Inn But rather than be a drafting fairy after i had recovered again i pulled alongside him and started to chat. He was heading to Worcester Park and the other chap was en route to Effingham (although he only started from Wimbledon). We then shared the work for almost the rest of the journey home. I say almost because coming up to the Gander Green Lane/St Anthony's junction we hit traffic and i made a wrong filtering decision which slowed me right down. The other two kept their speed and went the other side of the queue and totally dropped me and that was it, i just couldnt catch them again. Oh well, a good effort from me on my first day back in the sadlle and first fully dark commute since March this year. Only 5 months to go

I hate those headwinds. Why is it that at some point during the middle of the day the wind direction changes to the complete opposite of it's morning direction, and hampers me all the way home on my evening ride home too??

Getting used to riding in everyday. 200miles a week is going to put me in good stead come spring . Tired of punctures but hopefully the mahoosively heavy (duty) MPs will put an end to that... Now time to see how far past my target I can get... after the next 56 miles of course.

In order to keep up with you 2 ....I have done about 210 km in the last 3 days. yesterday was the worse one. Started a bit late and rode till 5.30....it was so so cold once the sun went down. Fingers and toes absolutely froze. I rode 3.5 hrs , so maybe that is just too long in this weather.....but I just dont know how you guys do this. Btw on the Dorking Road, my rear light gave up its ghost...lets just say I had a few hairy moments !!!!

Brrr...today was cold indeed. Cold toes this morning despite two pairs of socks on, the top layer being my supposedly thermal sealskinz. Will probably need to stop using the disco slippers and switch over to my shimano MTB boots instead. Two buffs on also. The MBR one on my noggin keeping my head and ears warm. the other around my neck and chin. Was colder this AM than this PM. Could have done with one of these though as i am getting a chill

Having suffered this week with cold fingers on my commute despite "winter" gloves, I had a bit of a reuslt in Tesco Metro in Croydon - nice thin fleece gloves that fit under my other gloves for a bargain £1!
Am going to come up short on my target for the year, but having ridden to work three times this week am enjoying at least getting some (very) fresh air.

I rate Trek's winter gloves, good quality fabric, stitching, waterproofing and Scotchlite. Even better at a discount! I'm currently using Specialized sub-zero two-piece (inner glove and outer shell) for the commute - a bargain last year from Ediburgh Bike Co-op - and they are oh-so-toasty ;D The two-part aspect mean you can run track mitts in milder weather and then use the shells over these in the rain.
