Seriously guys (fellow MTB'ers at heart), it's like the early noughties over here in roadie world. They are only just getting used to using discs on road bikes but following a crash in a pro race last week have banned them in the professional peloton. On the back of this French sportives have now also banned disc brakes. Anyone just bought a nice new disc equipped road bike and planning on riding L'Etape this yer? Think again road.cc/content/news/186893-disc-brakes-banned-french-sportives-including-letape-du-tourHey! 2002 MTB world called; it wants it's arguments back...

In fairness, I saw many examples of terrible bike handling in the etape, esp on the descents. Quite apart from bunch crashes on the flat, I reckon you'd get some of the brake draggers (of which there were many) boiling the brakes on long descents and not being able to slow for the corners. Still, they'd soon learn!
