Great memories, loved the bobbing head trick you had going on there. Anybody for Brussels for "Bier and frittes" , first bank holiday in May 2016. Will be putting an itinerary together shortly

That sounds great Cas, how would you plan on getting back to Blighty from there though?

Brussels or Brugge, I don't mind. I'm up for both, travel arrangements dependent.

You had me very confused there. To be fair I confuse easily.
General theory, is 120km to Dover, 120km Calais to Brugge, and 120km from Brugge to Brussels
You can catch a train from Brugge to Brussels with bikes, but can't quite figure out the time table for Eurostar connection.
Cas has also got me thinking about alternate end points, and a very cool one would be Muur van Gerhardsbergen. It's basically the spiritual home of Belgium cycling, also closer to Brussels. Will do some homework, as stated earlier, then get back with a plan of action

connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/551106237Bit at a time . There are shorter routes but they are no good . Then Calais to Brugge is about 130. Questions is do we do the 270 km in one day ? If not how do we split it ? From my experience last year I managed 230 and could not ride anymore . 85 km headwind in France and Belgium killed me

Fishybob666 - I have no idea what you are talking about but I take it that's a French/Belgian thing?

It would appear the erstwhile Frenchman is a fan of film noir, and not a hater of his former neighbours Anyway, I have come up with what I think is a fun and achievable itinerary. 30/04/2016 Day 1, leave Sutton/ Banstead area, wheels rolling @ 04:30am for 12:00 ferry from Dover to Dunkirk (Ferry crossing will be 2 hours) Dunkirk to Brugge 75km into what is bound to be a headwind with tired legs (max 4 hours I reckon) Spend evening in Brugge, drinking beer Day 2: Brugge to Muur van Geraardsbergen ( 85km +- 3hours) Catch 13:24 train from Geraardsbergen to Brussels midi ( Same station as Eurostar terminal) . 45 min journey. Some costs to take in mind: Ferry crossing with bike £20 Accommodation in Brugge £70 + - Train to Brussels ( no information) Eurostar £60 - £80 Bike booking on Eurostar £30 Beer & frittes in Belgium £200 Belgian chocolate for the Mrs £10 I have had my leave form signed off by the Mrs, so act early to avoid disappointment. Lastly, your bike www.eurostar.com/uk-en/travel-info/travel-planning/luggage/bikes

I would love to join but cannot justify the mega early start and relatively high expense to do 180 miles ! All the best on your adventures gentlemen. Perhaps, nearer Summer time we could arrange an overnight trip here in the UK - the Cheddar Gorge could be a good area to explore and stay over? I shall get the route master to have a look at a potential "loop". (Shouts for Cas!) Have a great Christmas everyone

We can buy Belgian or French cheese cos we are going to Belgium. We are not going to Cheddar.

thanks greg , so that's three of us on the trip: - Richard - greg - Marco, my new road riding buddy from work All three of us have paid for the ferry and the Eurostar and you have booked the hotel so we need to reimburse you for this at some point. Really looking forward to this one. Richard

This is coming soon - 10 days to go.
I'm on the scrounge. Does anyone have one of the following I can borrow for the weekend? Any damages/losses to be fully recompensed
- a Garmin tourer or similar to assist us with the route - a GoPro battery for mark I or II. I bought a cheap one off eBay after proving that it was just the battery that was kaput on my original GoPro but the cheap one is crap too. - or failing that, just lend me a GoPro for the weekend. I have one, the session 4 but would be good to get two views

Your welcome to take my Go Pro. It's not been used since the Alps last year. You might get a better offer.

Great track to end the trip Rich. That cafe was jolly expensive. But at least the sun was shining . You would swear Marco napped through the whole ride.
