There's a break with tradition this year and the principal outcome is that Le Tour will be going anti-clockwise again this year which means that the alps will once again be the crucial stages of Le Tour 2016.
Me and the Sear boys plus greg are heading down south with our road bikes and have already booked a week in the Loc Hotel, Alpen Sports which is in Les Gets from 19th to 23rd July 2016 (although greg just booked the last room - other hotels are available).
The tour is finishing in Morzine on the penultimate stage before Paris but this consequently means that all the hotels, chalets, rooms etc are already fully booked so Les Gets it is. It's easy to drop down to Morzine from Les Gets and a meagre 8km climb to get back to Les Gets at the end of the day.
The plan is to tackle the following during the week:
20th July - col de la Forclaz, a warmer upper at just 1,527m altitude
21st July - TBC - Individual Time trial stage
22nd July - col de Saisies, known to those of us who went to Destination X with Trailaddiction
23rd July - col de Joux Plane, otherwise known as were the Super Morzine lifts drop us off (the top of the second lift), at 1,691m altitude

So, I know there's loads of you out there with road bikes; who fancies experiencing some real mountain climbing and a chance to see Le Tour in it's proper setting (at altitude at the top of a French mountain)?
