Four short days to go.
there's a few guys i follow on Strava over in Morzine at the moment. Weather conditions generally good although they did have a day of heavy rain.
I think we should be prepared (dib, dib, dib) and ensure we take a rain jacket at least.

Reading through the plan Rich, sounds epic, really looking forwards to this!
Also happy to cook, should anyone want? Perhaps we could add a fun twist and do a 'Come Dine With Me' twist in the evenings?
Don't know if your insurance permits/you would be happy for someone to drive your car, but happy to share driving if needed. As you say, its an awful long way.

It is indeed and being overnight makes it more difficult, particularly at about 3 am when you are about eight hours into the journey... Let me look at my insurance, are you and Robin both fully comp covered?

Let me look at my insurance, are you and Robin both fully comp covered? righty-ho, it's £22-50 (each) for a week's cover. I can't be bothered to spend £45 so let's just add one of you. First one to come back to me with the following for the win! (please send on PM to prevent too much personal info on the web. Name - well I know that DoB - you gave me that for the chunnel crossing Occupation - ? How long have you had your full licence - ? Details of any accidents or claims in the last 5 years - ?

I'm feeling better on the weather front now. Here's this week's update courtesy of some random bloke on FB who happens to be there this week: www.facebook.com/jackmoirau/videos/500150696858747/Also worth searching for avoriaz mtb on FB too (Avoriaz is also part of the PDS area and is just up the top of the lift system out of Morzine).

Thanks Robin and details noted. I have removed them from the post though to protect your privacy/personal details.
Grant responded yesterday and so i have insured him for the two Saturdays that we are driving (just need to remember not to hand him the wheel before midnight Friday night).
Two drivers should be sufficient, if we need a third you can drive using 3rd PF&T cover from your own insurance in an emergency.

1 day and a few hours to go until we leave. It's so close I can taste it!
It's on the Treeline Chalets email that we got (and i forwarded to you) but here's the address again for the ratnav:
Chalet 1080, 100 Chemin des Moulins, Morzine 74110 France (hopefully you all knew that last bit).
See you all down in Folkestone if not before and don't forget your toothbrush, but more importantly your passport.

No ride report? Your slacking Richard! Cheers leeroybrown, nah, I've given up doing the ride reports, I finally got bored of doing them after about 15 years. However I would like to say that it was a cracking week, thanks to dave, deepmud, Glenith, robinbl and epic for making the week that I look forward to the most every year a really great laugh. After arriving in torrential rain on Saturday it was a relief to have bone dry trails from Sunday (except under the trees) and then from Monday even the shaded trails were dry all week long. It was great to hit the Swiss National DH trail (second time lucky) although dave regretted it when his light bicycle rim blew up half way down and robinbl got the shakes above 2,000 metres altitude (hey robinbl, I read that above 2,000 metres there is 25% less oxygen available so it may be an actual physical issue rather than psychological). And don't forget chaps, don't go too high on that massive wall ride at the top of Swiss national cos there is nothing but air and a 1,000 metre drop the other side! Re dave 's LB rim, i ran this past the chaps at work, many of whom ride LB rims and the comments covered the following: "I notice the rim has brake tracks - does he not use disc brakes?" - well clearly you do "The rims look like a really old LB design, were they DH spec?" - hmm.. thought they were only just over 12 months old? "I'd also probably also run Schwalbe ProCore if I was doing downhill on carbon rims" These were the recommended DH LB rims www.light-bicycle.com/enduro-downhill-mtb-26er-carbon-rims-38mm-wide-hookless-tubeless-compatible-strongest.htmlAnd finally, news from STW that not only were we lucky with the weather cos it appears to have been bone dry until Monday but is now peeing down in the 'Zine again but it's not quite so much fun if you don't have an accomplished guide (that was me by the way) to show you around the place. singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/morzine-im-not-really-getting-it

Thanks for the expert leading Rich. It definitely helps to be able to start the day on something easy to get the mojo in place and knowledge of the area means you can avoid excessive repetition and explore more widely. I had an excellent week's riding in good company and the weather and conditions were kind to us - couldn't hope for more.
On the carbon rims I think the lesson learned is that 'all mountain' doesn't necessarily mean 'all mountain' when it comes to carbon rims and they should be avoided when doing alpine downhill riding (I did 4 days in morzine on crests a couple of years ago and they were flexy, but survived fine).

Thanks for all the organising and great company guys! Particularly Richard, wouldn't have been the same without someone that knew the area. Nice job Dave and James for driving all that way, interesting contrast in styles between the rally driver and the chauffeur Wasn't quite feeling myself for some of last week. As evidenced by writing the cheque that neither myself or bike were up to cashing. Sorry to hold you all up the last 2 days while I minced. Wasn't kidding when I said I could barely walk. Getting up out of a chairlift and then being mown down by the chair because I was moving so slow was starting to be a serious concern!!! The weather was very kind to us, those trails likely aren't much fun in the wet. The tracks around Les Lindarets and just edging over into Switzerland were favourites for me. Overall though I definitely had a "holy shit this the best trail ever moment" following Pete down Panoramic Looking forward to seeing some footage when people have time to go through it all!

Glad you all enjoyed it. I have a request from Treeline chalets for feedback, anything anyone wants me to raise? I'm already thinking 'rubbish sacks'

...and i forgot about my bed. The slats all fell through when I lay down on it meaning I ended up virtually sleeping on the floor that night and then literally on the floor when I switched to the bottom bunk bed. We never found the hosepipe either but the jetwash at Le cottage sorted us out okay. But aside from that I thought the chalet was great. The location was the best of the three we have had from Treeline to date, right in the town centre. It was clean, tidy and comfortable with Apple TV (although I was disappointed that they didn't have Hot Tub Time Machine on there for us to enjoy (watch it, seriously, it's a great film). Handy for the supermarket, the lifts*, the recycling bins and only a stiff little climb uphill at the end of the day. The kitchen facilities were good with plenty of pots and pans, cups, saucers and a coffee machine. we even eventually found the cupboard with the extra glasses in. Who was it though that kept on putting dirty items on the side though instead of straight into the dishwasher? This is important stuff, robinbl needs to know? *Top tip: put those lift passes in your full-facer ready to re-use/top-up next year as I'm guessing the full-facer won't get much use until the next alpine trip but will be first in the list of packing.

Was a really great week.
Just to echo the thanks to all for being great company.
Special thanks to: Richard for the organisation and guiding/route decisions; Dave for driving; Robin for keeping the bike shop industry in Morzine afloat (and Dave too thinking about it!); Elliot for getting back up after falling off and not moaning about it; Grant, Dave and Richard for cooking.
I enjoyed all the trails except for the really muddy ones on the first day and the fire road sections that destroyed your hands. Some of the high traffic areas got pretty bad with braking bumps too.
Richard- other stuff on the chalet: Generally pretty good, bad bits were: No number! Front door lock was a bit questionable. Only 3 breakfast bowls A hose would have been handy as jet washing the bike wasn't ideal. Too stingy on things like washing up liquid, bin bags and loo roll.
