We don't seem to have a thread about this. It's too late for forecasts but I've been watching it on the box and enjoying it hugely.
What has happened to Nibali and Contador? Even Quintana has yet to show any form in the mountains. It looks like it's Froomedogs to lose.
And talking of mountains I'm off there again this year. Leaving on Tuesday evening to arrive Wednesday. Having already enjoyed one journey there and back for the MTB trip I'm piloting a new stop-over strategy this time.
Will arrive Wednesday evening and am staying close to Saint-Jean-de Maurienne for the following stages:
Stage 18, Thursday 23rd July. Gap -> Saint-Jean-de Maurienne
186.5km taking in the Col du Glandon at 1924 metres. 17 km of climbing at 7.4 per cent; gulp!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 19, Friday 24th July. Saint-Jean-de Maurienne -> La Touissuire - Les Sybelles
138 km taking in either the Col de la Croix de Fer ar 2067 metres. 22.4 km of climbing at 6.9 per cent or La Toussuire, 1705 metres altitude with 18 km of climbing at 6.1 per cent.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 20, Saturday 25th July. Modane Valfrejus -> Alpe d'Huez
110.5 km taking in the iconic alpe d'huez at 1850 metres this is 13.8 km of climbing at an average of 8.1 per cent. We've ridden this twice before and it's a belter. Those opening ramps are real leg burners as you strain up what feels like 45 degree ramps for the first 4 kilometres.
