Thanks to all for a good ride, and to Twelve and Flix for providing the quality drafting on the return leg. Cas just found a spare set of counting beads for the next time we have a full english brakfast, thanks for arranging the ride.

yeah, those two could have gone on for a lot longer (or faster) so thanks for the drafting. It was a good group on the way back tho and we kept it together well.
The first 12 miles until we turned off the main road were quality, a constant 19-20mph maintained by all four of us in a single gruppo.
We had another few good sections along the way too.
That is a really good return route Cas, we should use it for the next time we do that run. Very few hills, just flat followed by rolling terrain by flat etc although there was one 10% hill at about 70 miles into the ride which put me almost on the edge and i remember saying to Terry '~this isn't fun anymore' but I recovered again and we had some more drafting back from Charlwood

Great ride for many reasons.
Timing ( 6.30 am ) was perfect with the roads closed ( well nearly ) hardly any riders and cars Weather was great..not to cold or to hot Our group was the best ever
My total riding time was 2h:26 min, although I wasn't feeling all that great. Total time was just under 3 hours with stops arriving in Brighton about 9:20 am
I would have love do the route back with you guys, but had to be near East Grindstead at 1:30. Our route back was quite interesting 2. One massive hill out of Brighton for about 6km( bloody steep ) , with a strong head wind and lots of disgruntled driver.A very nervous stretch on the A27 into Lewes. But from then on we followed the A275 which was just great. Rolling hills for 15 miles through the Ashdown Forest and not 2 much traffic. At the end I was rewarded with a 4 km descend, while Tony carried on to East Grindstead to catch the train. Unfortunately 5 mins after we split he had a puncture and as he had not taken his pump was unable to fix it. This meant a 4 mile walk for him and he missed his train. Never the less , he still enjoyed the day
We have to do this again next year

starting from clapham at 7.30 meant quite a few hold ups early on. It took an hour just to get to carshalton ponds. The ride was best after nutfield, we were at a standstill for what seemed like ages, once we were clear of that it was a great ride. Arrived at the seafront collecting my medal just after 1.30 That was the longest ride I've done and feel quite pleased.

Was a great ride and I will def be doing it again next year as it's so nice with the roads been closed. Route back home was hillier than I remembered but still nice once we got off the busy roads at the beginning. A bit faster back than I expected but still feel ok this morning and the ride in to work stretched the legs out nicely.

Cheers everyone for a for a great day yesterday, and in particular to Twelve for the tows out of Brighton & up Reigate hill and for the well-planned route home.
Was personally very satisfiying for me to watch my bike computer tick over 100 miles - the furthest I've ever ridden in a day.
This time next year?!

felt knackered today, but it was a great ride . my only regret was not going back with you.
Riding back on the A23 wasn't nice, either dusty cycle lanes or motorway like roads, but at least no real climb over the downs .& because my lift didnt want to get stuck in traffic, i ended up riding half way home to near crawley, hardly worth it! i'm up for next year - return trip

Nice report. I hope your mate who busted his shoulder isnt in too much pain. Did he break his collarbone? Im trying to picture the two kickers on waggledance but I cant seem to place them. Waggledance is the trail that we pick up from the top (or bottom) of Deliverance and winds its way towards the Wolverns lane junction where it spits you out, and from that junction we pick up the first climb up Summer Lightning that most people call regurgitator. Thats right isnt it? I must of ridden it dozens of times and I cant picture the two kickers.
Anyway, sounds like Sunday was a good ride, but Id never have managed it at your pace on a mountain bike with knobbly tires. I may be thinking about the South Downs way to Shoreham though sometime. Im not sure about riding back though...

Nick, I dunno, my guess was a collarbone but he only said 3 bones in his shoulder and hasn't updated me since. you are on the correct trail but we normally finish it half way thru i.e. at the top of the hill to turn out onto wolverns lane and to get to summer lightning. if you stay on the trail it turns right and descends through the trees almost to coldharbour before either spitting you out onto wolverns lane again or you can carry on up the regurgitator climb hence we often dont ride it. i thonk you have your trail names mixed up. regurgitator is the climb that is visible on the right as we join waggledance from deliverance. we ride straight past the top of it and rarely loop back round to climb it or in fact choose to descend via that trail.
