Timed my climb up it a few weeks ago on our Sunday group ride. I'm sure you can knock a bit off that Tony!

Did this tonight on a steel frame hardtail 27lb ...ish, I am sure the quick boys will be able to take at least 1.5 mins of this. Still dry tonight hope it rains hard when the next person trys it.

Excuse my ignorance but what is this thread ? The Zig Zags on mountain bikes or an off road climb ??
If its the former I think I had better add my 7-25 and remove it from the other thread !!

Hi Lloydy, it's the latter i.e. the chalky flinty off-road climb that starts at the same point. At the bottom of zig zag road look to the right and there is a bridleway there that heads up to the NT cafe.

Oh ok Muddy, thanks.
Might give that one a go in the near future.
Out of interest, do you know if anyone is planning on doing the London - Brighton ? I know its fully booked but it might be possible to join the route at some point?.

If the weather is good...I and a few others are planning to be at the start early...say 6:15 or so and then get going ...I don't have a number , but fancy doing it ahead of the crowd anyway..with the roads closed to traffic it should be good....just getting back is a pain in the ass

Some of my roadie friends (Pearson cycles) and I meet at Carshalton ponds at 6:30am every year on London-Brighton day. This allows you to ride down with the quicker riders and get the advantage of the closed roads. We then have breakfast on the Brighton seafront at about 9:30 and ride back over the Devils Dyke, up the Horsham and home. Usually a great day out.

Cas - that's such an outdated view of roadies. CERA is much better than EPO. Seriously we do ride quite quickly but you may be fine. Pop into Pearsons - you're in Sutton and have a chat with Guy.

I have some left over EPO....no worries about the speed . I'm sure there will be a few of us...that way if you can't keep up we just split up ;D...however I think i can do it in 3 hours anyway...let see closer to the time. But the idea of starting at the pond is a good one Muddy I think we just hijacked the thread...could you move this to a diferent heading please ?

Where is this timed from and to? From the start of the off road track to the corner at the top? Or around the corner and up to the road? Or up to the cafe, queue up, get tea and cake, consume it and then stop the timer?

The rules as set out by Flix here are as follows: Start from the time you join the bridleway off the road and finish when you get to the car park joining the bridleway is clear enough but which car park are we talking about Flix? The one behind the NT cafe area (coaches/disabled only?) or the main one on the opposite side of the road?

Took me a while to find that - it was roadytony's post. Yes, not clear... I'm guessing you go straight ahead at the corner and head past the log into the NT members car park? (as if you were aiming for the cafe)

To summit the Matterhorn ahead of the crowd I'm willing to get up at 3 am etc etc etc .....and in this case i will make an exception to beat the hoards

Ok we went up the bridleway on the Muddy moles ride this evening. I had a bit of meachanical at the bottom with my gears slipping so not too bad timewise. That's on my fuel Ex8.

(as if you were aiming for the cafe) +1 That's the finish gate I'd aim for too - gasping by that point with oxygen deprivation, joining the road [traffic] is the last thing you want to do. It's also quicker to get into the tea queue

Mine was the car park top of b'path I did not cross the road. By that stage heart pumping at max and legs knackard I might have got flattened by some old lady in a morris minor. Well done to Tony, Flix I am sure will get close to that time. Next time I am out with Davebus I might have another go. We have just got back from a ride to Westcot, just before it started to rain.

I saw Davebus cycle past the shop at 5.30pm I had my Five with me so coul dhave tagged along ! I nearly rang him to ask if he was starting out or finishing off ! Never mind, I had a good ride back, taking in Secret Singletrack, Life on Mars, Alpine Descent, High Ashcombe climb (cleared it - nice!) and the steep descent down to Brockham from the caravan park. Awesome commute ! But now its pissing down

Went out on the Jekyll this evening to give it a 'shake down' prior to South Downs Way venture on Sunday - I have been a little unkind about the old lady of late but new stem and bars have given her a new lease of life and she's back in my good books ;D Tony..................84kg...............May 13........7-35.............veteran Suey..................67kg...............June 3rd.....8.06.............365 commuter/Queen of the Mountains Terry.................78kg................May 12.......8-20.............veteran Flix....................77kg................Apr 26........8-30.............sportive I'm pretty sure I can do it quicker than this, didn't want to do myself a nasty before Sunday

Had another go at this on Sunday on a Moles ride - I didn't really make any substantial improvement over last time, but Barry managed an astounding 6-58, which well deserves a post on here. Come on Tony - a quick recovery required to regain the title ;0)

Out with Terry for a Box hill and back ride tonight (Terry was taking it easy after the 70 miler over the weekend) but I managed the time posted below on my P.A. Rekon I could probably get it down some more though.
