I saw all your cars sitting there when we got the end of Telegraph Road. Hope you had a good day.
Had more danger driving to Holmbury with several slides in the car than I did riding round the hills.

An interesting day today. Thanks to Danielle and Jessica for taking us through the core skills course an some of the singletrack course too. I certainly found it useful and that I need to re-examine my technique particularly on trails like Telegraph Road when i just bunny hop (or Gorilla hop which I heard for the first time today) my way down the trail. Here's the pictures and ride report to follow

Id like to thank Danielle and Jessica for yesterday. A very interesting day and a surprise to find that there is a better easier way to do something that Ive been doing badly for years.
I wasnt really sure what I was going to learn before I went, but went always happy to learn something new. What I actually learned was something that will hopefully I think have quite an impact on how I control the bike on the trails. All Ive got to do now is get it embedded so that it is as natural as the bad habits that have become ingrained over the years.
I think there is probably enough interest to get a group or two and book an advanced trail riding course in a couple of months. But maybe we should do it sans Marin riders :-)

interesting video. who is the guy on the green orange? Cheers Tony, that's 'Green Orange Dave' who rides with both this group and the muddymoles too. More riding from him and the rest of us on our Seven Stanes videoIt was a bit difficult to get much action out of what is essentially sessioning the same bits of bridleway or to make it look overly exciting but I think it's a fair representation of what we covered during the day. I really enjoyed the day, you start off thinking this is going to be a bit simple but as easy said it should really help with some of the bad habits picked up over the last 20 years, you don't realize how many you have. I definitely learned something new. I would be keen to do another day on the single track course before we go to the Alps in July. Thanks for photos and video Muddy, you did well putting what is essentially 3/4 bits of track into something interesting, also a big thank you to Danielle and Jessica who gave the time and resources for free. Thank you for arranging the day Muddy

I had an excellent time today. Learnt lots, there was a lot for me to learn being a newby. Now just have to put it into practice over the next few months. I to would like to thank Danielle and Jessica for the lessons, feel a bit more confident in riding and a bit more confident in the bike too. Met the Moles boys today too, seem like a nice bunch.
Thanks to Muddy for orgainising!

Top job with not much material, nice one. 10/10 for the ending though, a "gorilla jump" in slight slo-mo followed by "you need to get your weight back" ... LMAO My video wasn't as good as planned (I think I threw enough caveat's in at the start though) there's a focus issue which I need to take a look at (things close enough are OK, middle distance is OOF though) and the card wedge under the camera slipped out of position leaving plenty of footage with no heads, there's a bit of useable stuff if you want though, in case you want to do an Astounding Adventures Directors Cut ;D - about 2GB in all. Nick, that ain't no Marin!

Had more danger driving to Holmbury with several slides in the car than I did riding round the hills. Saw a prang as we left. Just got down Radnor Lane to the junction when I saw headlights coming from the right, so I though I'd wait - as it was icy and I didn't know how long it would take to pull out (aftger gaining traction). Glad I did, as this tw@t in an Astra (with 'custom' foglights) was carrying way too much speed, made the corner past the junction (i.e. us - phew) then saw some oncoming cars so slammed on his anchors and went (suprise suprise) in a straight line into the left hand bank. He then had to reverse out of the way of the oncoming traffic and used all the revs in his 'box all at once in a semi-successful attempt to move backward. Backward was the term indeed. After watching the show in widescreen ;D we turned left onto the main road and eventually lost sight of the idiot. It's a jungle an ice cap out there.

Uncle; Hahahahaaaa
It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under.
Will have to try and edit a future vid to that, maybe a road one (white line fever)
I too drove down the exit from the YHA and was going slow at the bottom but still got a bit of a surprise when I hit the brake pedal and it started 'pumping' beneath my foot. But as I said I was going slow enough to control it and didn't slide out onto the junction.

Oh and yes Huey, I would like to see and use the footage you shot. Its a learning process (the shooting) but so is the editing and ias you say I hopefully have had enough practice at using my own woefully thin material to make something that works ok.
Would also be interested in you reminding me of your thoughts on the Go Pro HD helmet hero cam.

Rich/Huey on the way from Ockley to Holmbury (just where I'd normally turn right to go to Leith) I had a four wheel slide that took me on to the wrong side of the road (at slow speed) and we had several little drifts from there all the way down to HSM.
When we got to Peaslake a guy was being treated by a paramedic with an ambulance enroute, he'd come off his bike riding there from the end of BKB on the road. The ice was nuts.
Sounds like you all had a great time.

I like the way you can hear one of the girls saying 'What's he doing?' as even a blind man could tell that he clearly hadn't grasped what he was supposed to be doing.

I have no doubt you were proceeding with caution the whole way. Glad you're in all in one piece though! It was, we did a road stretch from the end of Secret Squirrel to the Volunteer and the roads were all iced up along that stretch. Danielle took a tumble on the way there and Sue took a tumble on the road back up afterward (aside from a dent in Danielle's shin they were both OK )

To add to the tales of woe, I took a nasty tumble on the corner just outside the bike shop in Peaslake - bike just completely slid out from under me - got a badly bruised and grazed hip and left arm perhaps the next skills course should be on ICE riding

An excellent day - thanks all round to Muddy, Jessica and Danielle ;D Am thinking of organising a day for the 'surf dudes' group we ride with, will let you know if we do anything. BTW - I have been practising 'dynamic weight shifting' off the speed bumps on my commute, not quite the same with panniers but still Have also been weaving between the white lines in the middle of the road (quiet roads with no oncoming cars I might add!) in a bid to improve the 'weight on the outside pedal, don't backpedal' thing' while cornering. In my mind's eye it's a smooth, seamless triumph, in reality my feet seem to have a life of their own!
