As there have been a number of active new members joining recently here's a few tips for everyone for enhancing your use of the forum:
I will add others here as i think of them
POSTING PICTURES
Idiots Guide:
1/ If your picture is already hosted somewhere on the internet (it will have a url ending .jpg)
- hit 'reply' or post a new thread' to get the page up with all the buttons on
- Click the insert image tag in the 'add tags' section
- this will post tags like this [ imgl][ /img]
- copy and paste the url of your picture in between the tags like so
- [ img] www . your pictures url . jpg[ /img]
- Click 'post reply' button
2/ If your picture is just on your hard drive e.g. you have taken a picture with your digital camera and want to share it
- hit 'reply' or post a new thread' to get the page up with all the buttons on
- look at the 'upload an image' section
- click the 'browse' button
- navigate to wherever you have saved the picture on your hard drive
- EITHER double click the picture or click it once and then click 'open'
- the file path to the picture will now display on the white box
- click 'host it'
- after a few moments a separate window will display
- wait until this has finished processing and then click in the left box headed 'forum code'
- this automatically highlights the link. Right click and 'copy'
- click back on the forum page
- paste the url you have just copied into your post
- click 'preview' to make sure that it has worked
- if it has then click 'post reply'
- if it hasn't then you probably shouldn't be allowed to use the internet on your own...
- You can amend your profile by clicking on the profile button at the top of the page and then clicking 'modify profile'
- In the modify profile section you can change your password if you require something more suitable/secure
- You can display your current 'mood' e.g. happy, sad, angry, cool, confused etc.
- There are a whole host of other settings in there depending on how much information you want to be displayed on the web e.g. personal website, your location etc.
- There are a number of 'skins' that you can use for the forum. Click on the 'select skin' dropdown menu and choose one. Once you save changes by clicking 'modify profile' at the foot of the page you will see the change.
- One of the profiles is called moaning cas because he moaned at me for ages to change the way the forum looked
- If you want to suggest another appearance for the forum then post it here and I will see if I can create it
- take care not to hit the 'delete account' button. That will be it, I can't recover deleted profiles
- Back to the main page of the forum, If there are a number of you logged on at the same time you can 'chat' in real time by hitting the chat button at the top of the page. This opens a new window with an 'MSN' style chat box. These discussions are not stored for future reference
- you can send a personal message to any of the other members by clicking on the personal message section at the top of the page
- You can be notified that a message has arrived for you by amending your private message preferences. You can set an e-mail to be sent to you or the easiset thing I find is to set the 'alert box' to Yes
- As well as proposing rides on the ride diary you can log them on the calendar. This causes them to appear in the 'Events this month' section on the front page
- You can post images here. Unlike most other sites, the images don't have to be already uploaded to the web. To post an image that is on your hard drive click 'reply' on an existing thread or 'new thread' and then click the 'browse' button in the upload an image section. Find your image on your C drive and then click 'host it'. Another window will appear and after about 30 seconds you will see your image has been uploaded to imageshack. Click on the 'full image' button and then hit the 'add to post' button. Then just post your reply as normal and the image will be displayed
- If your image is already uploaded to the web, copy the url/address of the image (usually ending in .jpg) and then paste this into the message box. Then highlight it and click the image 'tag' (look up there in the tags section to see the image button to the right of the globe button. Then post your reply as normal and the image will appear
